Songwriting, orchestral composition, arranging, and sound design.
Music performance is a big part of my professional life, and I also enjoy writing original soundtracks and other orchestral pieces. I work with freely available orchestral sound libraries, but I enjoy pushing these sounds to their limits to make something that sounds as realistic as possible!
Starseeker was a personal project in which I composed a memorable 90-second intro theme song for a swashbuckling naval adventure series. (Cover Art: JaeCheol Park)
New Solstice is a theme song commission I completed for a Dungeons and Dragons game. As the story is a tense political drama about a civil war in a nation-state deep in the jungle, the piece features Latin American and militaristic themes. (Cover Art: Garrett Finazzo)
Smoke and Mirrors is another fantasy soundtrack commission. My aim was to set the mysterious nighttime atmosphere for the fictional city of Trapani, a close analogue to real-world Athens.
Not all the music I compose is orchestral or classical. I enjoy playing with other types of sounds as well. This song, Research and Development, was composed using sounds of household objects such as doors, bottles, tape decks, and kitchen timers!
I also enjoy composing music in the style of retro video game soundtracks. The soundfonts and synthesizers used in this style are simplistic and precise, and those constraints make it possible for me to try new and exciting ideas. When I compose chiptunes, I usually try to emulate the styles of iconic soundtracks and composers from the history of game music.
I created a pair of songs in the style of Castlevania, a classic horror platformer. The first of the two pieces is the foreboding introduction of a main theme. (Cover Art: Capcom)
After completing the title screen tune, I remixed that main theme into boss fight music. This composition was also inspired by the soundtracks of the original Pokemon games. (Cover Art: Capcom)
My experience composing and performing live has also led to expertise in sound mixing, recording technology, musical mastering, and other sound engineering skills.
